How To Replace a Water Pump and Save $783
Water pump replacement DIY. Learn how to replace a water pump at home using common hand tools. I was able to easily replace this water pump in under an hour and saved $783.
Replacing the water pump on many cars is not difficult and this is a perfect example of an easy to replace water pump. You could do this entire job without any special tools and I spent under $60 in parts which is unbelievable after getting the $843 quote from the Jaguar dealership. I will also do a video on a more difficult water pump so you can see what is involved in that as well.
Thanks PEAK for the coolant product placement in this video!

For daily updates, definitely follow me on Instagram: Instagram.com/ChrisFixit The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed! P.S. Here is a link to the first every DIY video I did on my channel to help people: fititle.info/one/videot/rITQZ7qHfayeg5w.html

Chris, I need help! My 2014 passat has a clunking noise while going over small or large bumps. I have checked every joint and tightened every bolt. I've been under this car every other day trying to find the culprit. I'd bring the car in but due to the lockdowns affecting my income. I just don't have the money to spare on that. I feel it might be the output cv axle seal, but I don't want to dig in that if it's not that. Plus I can't find any videos on this. Please, I need help with this. Thank you for any help.

If you ever come through the shawnee Oklahoma area let me know. I'd love to show you the work I've been doing on my truck. I have 0 professional mechanic skills every thing I've done so far has been with the help of people like you and the good people that make the Haynes manuals.

only 2 things i would do different, and both are just little extras. I know it's not needed but i still put rtv on paper gaskets. I only apply a thin film though, you would still clearly see the grey of this gasket through the blue rtv. I also wire brush the threads of bolts, got a wire wheel on one side of the bench grinder, only takes a couple seconds per bolt and makes me feel a little better how reliable the torque spec is.

I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger overheating also I have coolant mixed with the oil but the water pump is external would this cause the coolant to be mixed with the oil or does it have to do with the head gasket

The amount of enthusiasm he has about fixing stuff is mind boggling. I've worked on many many cars over the years and let me tell ya, the mechanics dialogue is that of a salors mouth. I've never once heard this guy curse out a engine designer or a signal bolt, but then again, he seems to live and work in an area that is rust free, which makes a world of difference when working on cars. Snapped and rusted bolts, busted knuckles and absolute oil and grease covered parts are NOT fun to work with.

I am confused on the last step involving the funnel. Suppose that in your coolant reservoir you have a minimum and maximum line how would you go about getting in between there using the funnel Is it even possible? Or is there in alternative missed method to removing air from the system?

Just in case you don't watch until the very end of the video (13:00): That catchpan is important. If you get any coolant on the driveway or garage floor, be sure to clean it up - it tastes sweet, pets will drink it, and it destroys their kidneys - as little as a tablespoon (dogs) or teaspoon (cats) can be fatal.

This is a simple replacement that will cost a LOT of ca$h at a garage or dealership. Take that saved hundreds (over $500) and give it to a charity and wash your hands well. You are done and gained confidence for other basic jobs on a car (plugs, PCV valve, and coils are all simple to replace!).

I use RTV on gaskets all the time, stick them to one surface makes it way easier to install in tricky spots. also sometimes if the surfaces are damaged etc they can still leak with just a gasket, Always pays to use a bit of RTV given its very cheap
