Let me get this strait: the car just shut off while driving and did not starting again, and the reason for this was that the timing belt skipped multiple teeth. How did this not bend some valves? I'm pretty sure that engine is an interference engine.

I heard the start and hear she's trying. I haven't seen the middle of the video and I bet my life savings it's a timing belt issue, hondas are NOTORIOUS for timing issues It will show up sometimes on the CAN bus with an OBD II. I had a 2000 civic with the same issue, it wasn't obvious until I did an overhaul and saw the timing waay off because the belts were soo worn out it popped out of the pulley

Heh, Isn't it typical. My mum had a BMW 1 series which was about 8-9 years old. It had missfires then stopped working all together. She sent it to the mechanics(a franchise one, but what isn't these days), and they couldn't figure it out without new parts or something like that. Anyway instead of pouring more money into it she sold it to a colleague of hers for what must have been way under 1/10 of its bluebook or parts alone. So she teaches Economics/Organisation at a maratime technical college, so her co-workers are ex-engineers and machinists. She sold it for what is about 800 USD, he fixed it for 80 USD.

Hey Chris thank you for this video I think I jumped a tooth or 2 my timing belt is semi loose... my idle is jumping and I have no check engine light and the biggest issues... I can't go past 5.5k rmp either in neutral or in gear. I have a 5 speed civic 97 d15b motor yes it was swapped but its the same looking motor as the one you just work on in this video. I'm going to check my timing tomorrow

Missed a shot at a Dodge Neon "stuck in second gear" for $500. Couldn't get out there to pick it up. Felt bad for the seller since it had been his first car and his wife was making him get rid of it after it sat in the driveway for a while. Texted and told him to Google "neon shift linkage fix." Next day he texted that was it and he took it for a drive with a couple zip ties holding the shift linkage together while he waited for the $20 full set of new bushings. Don't know if he kept it, but if not I'm sure he was able to get more than $500 for it after that.

I have the intermittent n/c n/s but occasionally smell fuel odour on and off when it does start & it's not leaking from anywhere underneath it ?? Got to start looking at the issue tomorrow when it's warmer outside. You're ace at this stuff. Glad you didn't become a chef or something because I can already cook ! Lol
