If you have a Lexus/Toyota. Use Toyota Automatic Transmission Fluid. Its the best stuff and 3rd party manufacturers can't compete with their "like oem" transmission fluids.
Nadine Linda5 päivää sitten
Went to my local toyota dealer and they want about $1000 to do what you suggest. ($189 for brake fluid. $320 For transmission and so on). 5 years ago my chevy dealer charged me $600 for same service on my silverado.

On adding trans fluid.. you ran the car ten min. My guess is that you actually got the fluid temp to 160 degrees not around 100. I would suggest using an infared thermometer to see if the temp is correct to set the fluid level. I think your car is under filled because you checked it when too hot. Also your pump from the quart bottle left fluid in the quart container. How did you compensate for that? With a toyota the temp range is only about 10 degrees. And toyota claims you need a 1000 dollar vac pump system to check the level.
CAYMAN9877 päivää sitten
Chris.. the oil light on the dash does not indicate low oil level like you said. It indicates low oil pressure. Which can happen with oil level low or correct or high.
CAYMAN9877 päivää sitten
Fords cam phasers can reduce almost all oil pressure when the seals leak. Same with the oil powered timing chain tensioners. One leak can destroy the engine. Plus fords have tiny oil passages. Very sludge prone
CAYMAN9877 päivää sitten
Toyota says not to change trans fluid. The kit to measure trans fluid is 1000 dollars.. and you need a scanner tool to check trans temp that reads toyota data. Losing the dipsticks is just part of the story..

Do you really need to lift the car to change the power steering oil? I know that rotating the wheels standing still isn't great for the tires/direction/suspension, but it gets the job done I guess

Anonymike8 päivää sitten
Power steering dirty tricks. If the reservoir has only a small hole in it twist up a paper towel and stick it in there to soak up the old fluid. Generally, you can remove at least one line from the reservoir and drain some of the fluid though. If you have a small leak, well, first check the clamps and connections. As the fluid leaks out, replace the missing fluid with Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak. Dagnabit, it usually works. You probably won't even get to the bottom of the bottle.

Hi Chris I been watching your videos for years and you're great but i notice you mostly do simple american or japanese cars, I think you should venture into german cars such as bmw and audi/volkswagen since their process for doing maintenance is always a little more tricky compared to other cars.

I like to use liquid paint or just a regular felt pen to write the dates of maintenance in the engine bay - if there is a spot available. You can also write underneath the hood. Good to know when you last changed what fluid and what oil. Also good if you want to sell the car and you lost the maintenance history documents (Ever lent out a car and it came back without the documents but with plenty of chicken bones?).
glytzhkof10 päivää sitten
Can someone explain to me why we have to pop the hood to fill washer fluid? It is a ridiculous convention and we should get an external lid to fill it up easily. We should also be able to top off the washer fluid from its own nozzle at the gas station. That would save a whole lot of plastic fantastic floating around (though it is nice to have an extra can along in the trunk in winter).

That´s Stone Age procedures... try to do that on a + Euro5 Car and it wont last 1 day . Coolant and Auto Transmission Fluid must be changed at specific temperature . Coolant must be changed with scan tool to open the circuit valves . Some Euro6 diesel cars have 5 independent coolant circuits.

if its not freezing too hard I defrost the windscreen with cold water. then put the wipers on minimum setting. and pour water on it again if it starts to freeze again. wipers removes the water and leaves a clean windshield. works really well!
